Reference Photos Guide

The quality of your reference photo plays a huge role in the final piece—so choosing the right one matters!

  • Clear & not blurry: Crisp details help me capture your pet accurately

  • Straight-on angle: Photos taken at eye level work best (avoid shots from above)

  • Good lighting: Natural light is best—avoid harsh shadows or filters

  • Focus on the face & chest: Especially the eyes, expression, and unique markings

  • True-to-life colors: Choose photos that reflect your pet’s real fur coloring

  • Pose & personality: Pick a photo with an expression that feels like them

You’re welcome to send a few photo options—I’m happy to help choose the one I think will look best as a painting!

These are both great reference photos! They’re well-lit with no harsh shadows, taken straight on, clear, and capture their expressions nicely.

These also work really well, if you are wanting more of a side profile angle instead of straight-on, which I also love!
